Settling during a well cement operation can lead to the development of free water or free fluid. Free water and fluid do not set like cement, which can compromise well integrity and zonal isolation.
The BP Cement Settling Tube is designed to test the settling characteristics of well cement under elevated temperature and pressure. The cement slurry is poured into the brass tube and cured in a Consistometer, Curing Chamber, or water bath. After the cement has cured, the column is cut into pieces and the density of each piece is measured using Archimedes Principle.
